Overthinker lyrics

IntroAlan Watts

A person who thinks all the time
Has nothing to think about except thoughts
So, he loses touch with reality and lives in a world of illusions

Verse 1The Main

Look, I need to stop drinking so much
I get too deep in my thoughts
And try to use all of them as a crutch
But that ain't enough
I overthink and make it seem like my life is so rough
But others got it tough
And who am I to judge
I get mad at people but never seem to hold a grudge
Why am I like that
Why don't I fight back
I gotta get right back
To who I am as a man
I gotta stick to the plan
But everything is gonna be fair
And I've noticed that nobody even cares
When I'm feeling down
There are just some days when I wanna drown
And gеt away right outta town
Drive for days and days
I wish I could get away from my thoughts
But they gеt me, it's sad to see
That I break down like the car I bought
But I gotta stick to the plot
To the plan, to my story
But don't you worry
I got the help I need

InterludeAlan Watts

By thoughts I mean specifically, chatter in the skull
Perpetual and compulsive repetition of words
I'm not saying that thinking is bad
Through excessive thinking, they have lost touch with reality

Verse 2The Main

I didn't think I would lose myself the way I have
My overthinking caused me to ruin something I thought I had
Cause its always my fault
I gotta learn to ignore my thoughts
I can't believe it took me this long to connect the dots
I'm too insecure to build the blocks
When will I get the help I need
I should prolly go back to therapy
But don't you see
'Delaine, you're doing fine'
No, I'm not
'Yes you are, here's a drink to numb the pain'
See there are my thoughts tryna get in the way
And that is not ok
When will this pain just go away
My demons come out to play
I just want some girl to look my way
But today won't be that day, no
But today won't be that day, no, no

InterludeAlan Watts

We confuse signs, words, numbers, symbols
With the real world
Most of us would have rather money than tangible wealth
And a great occasion is somehow spoiled for us unless photographed
And to read about it the next day in the newspaper
Is oddly more fun for us than the original event
This is a disaster
For as a result of confusing the real world of nature
With mere signs
Such as bank balances, contracts
We are destroying nature
We are so tied up in our minds that we've lost our senses
Obviously, no one can say
Because it isn't words
It isn't material, that's just an idea
Time to wake up
What is reality?
